Spokeshave

The spokeshave (variously, spoke shave) was a form of plane. It was primarily used by wheelwrights for making wagon spokes, hence the name, but it also was used by carpenters to smooth wooden tool handles and also coopers in the forming of the wooden staves for barrels. Rough work was performed with the draw knife, and then finished with the spokeshave.
The blade of this particular spokeshave was not adjustable. Some of them had a small thumbscrew that could adjust the blade slightly. Most spokeshaves commonly used were of the unadjustable type.
