Artifacts Of The
   American Revolutionary War

Books

The books exhibited here are comprised of chapters / sections which functioned as periodicals, and provided the reader with news on a monthly basis in the same way that many magazines do at the present time. The collected sections were published the following year as a bound volume.
Note: Additional books printed prior to the year 1800 are exhibited in the gallery titled "The Written And Printed Word". The ones presented in this exhibit are ones printed during the years of the American Revolutionary War.

Shown below is a newspaper issued on Monday, February 20, 1775. It is titled: The Hampshire Chronicle: Or, Winchester, Southampton, and Portsmouth Mercury. An article appearing on the last page of this four-page newspaper, signed by 'Senex' speaks with empathy for the Americans who were objecting to taxation without representation.
