Civil cases usually result from the filing of a complaint against someone (i.e. the defendant) by someone (i.e. the plaintiff). Civil court records include the various documents generated by such cases. Those documents include items resulting from things such as the actual complaint and the answer, depositions, discovery proceedings, motions, and so forth. Civil cases also include divorce proceedings, adoption proceedings and inheritance proceedings.
