   This version of the Stripes With Union Of Stars flag appeared in various paintings by John Trumbull between 1780 and 1824. It was similar to the popular Batchelor Stars flag carried at the Battle of Cowpens with the exception that the twelve stars surrounding the single central star are arranged in a square, or rather parallel to the four sides of the canton.

  The flag was featured by the artist John Trumbull in his paintings, Surrender Of Cornwallis and the Surrender Of Burgoyne shown below.
