CHAPTER NEWS

CHANGES TO THE CHAPTER NEWSLETTER     Some changes have been made regarding the content and publication of the Frontier Patriots Chapter's Newsletter. For quite a number of years of the Newsletter's existence, it was utilized to announce upcoming events and remind the members of already announced events. A list of the meeting dates for the upcoming year was included in the first issue of the year (usually out in January) and then in each successive issue would appear a reminder of the meeting that was imminent. Each issue was published two weeks prior to the next meeting. The intention was to provide the members with all of the meeting and dinner dates for the year at the start of the year, and then to remind them just before the individual meetings. Because of the fact that one or two individuals did not keep their first issue of the year, and then claimed that getting the 'notice' of the upcoming meeting only two weeks prior was inconvenient because they then did not have time to plan for attending the meeting; it was suggested by the membership at one of our meetings that the newsletter should come out shortly after each meeting, with notice of the next one being in hand a greater length of time than previously. As is often the case, the couple individuals who complained the most about missing meetings because they had received their notice too soon, now complained that there was too much time between the receiving of the newsletter notice and the meeting, and that they would forget to attend the meetings. It should also be noted that when I was asked to produce a newsletter, I was cautioned not to include any information brought up at a previous meeting, or intended to be brought up at a future meeting, which would be controversial; the purpose of the newsletter was to be informative about the American Revolutionary War and anything associated to it. Other than providing 'historical' articles, the newsletter was only used to announce upcoming meetings. I was cautioned not to mention, for example, anything about the desire to change the Chapter's name during the 1990s. About that same time, the then-current President decided to perform various of the other officers' functions, and he began to send out e-mail notices two weeks prior to the upcoming meetings. At that point, I saw no reason for myself to worry about getting the newsletter out on any set time schedule. The current President has also taken on the task of writing a newsletter of sorts and having the Secretary send it out via e-mail (with hard copies of the e-mail being postal-mailed to those who do not have Internet access). Therefore, I have decided to forego the production of the traditional newsletter that I had been producing. Instead, I will continue to produce an unscheduled set of Revolutionary War oriented articles in booklet form, to be distributed to the members when produced.

A brief history of the Chapter can be accessed on this website using this link:    The complete history of the Blair County / Frontier Patriots Chapter is available in the book, Mother Bedford And The American Revolutionary War, as noted below.

The officers for the Frontier Patriots Chapter for the years 2008/2009 have been included on the webpage titled: 'Officers'. It can be accessed on the Mother Bedford website using this link:

The book, Mother Bedford And The American Revolutionary War is still currently available for purchase from Closson Press. This history of Bedford County during the American Revolutionary War is the definitive history of the subject. Much of the information contained on the website www.motherbedford.com was derived from the book. But the book contains so much more that could not be fit on the website. Every document to be found in the public archives pertaining to Bedford County during the American Revolutionary War period is transcribed in the book. Ordering information is available at the Closson Press website.

During a week period coinciding with the 200th Anniversary of the death of George Washington, the Mother Bedford home page bore a banner graphic in memory of our nation's first Commander In Chief. The essays that were prepared for the Chapter newsletter during 1999 were created as web pages on the Mother Bedford website.

The various essays produced for the Frontier Patriots Chapter's Newsletter under the title of A Chronology Of The American Revolutionary War will be reproduced on the Mother Bedford website. I am currently in the process of transferring all the previously published essays. I will be uploading new essays as they are produced for the newsletter.
