FERMENTATION

The ninth process of Fermentation consists of the transmutation into the pure state.

With the purification of the White Stone accomplished, the alchemist now adds a minute quantity of gold to the material to bring about the Fermentation. Some alchemists prefer to add silver or antimony.

In the same way that yeast added to a material will cause the material to undergo agitation and enzymatic action, the White Stone becomes yellow in color and changes into gold.

The result comes about by the joining of the Stone's element of soul, Sulphur, with the base metal which is added to it to form a leaven which will then merge the soul with the purified body of the Stone.
