Powder Horn      Exhibit 1

The powder horn was an object used alike by hunters and soldiers. During the time of muzzleloader guns, the powder horn functioned as a portable storage container for the black powder used to fire the guns.
The powder horns shown in this section would date from after the American Revolutionary War. It is difficult to date something like this accurately; it could have been produced as early as the 1790s or as late as the 1910s.
Additional powder horns, dating to the American Revolutionary War period, are included in the section of that name.
This horn measures six (6) inches in length and one and one-half (1-1/2) inches in diameter at the wide end.
