The complete title of this book is: BIBLIA Das ist: DIE HANZE HEILIGE SCHRISST Alten und Neuen Testaments, Berteutschet durch Doct. Martin Luther. Friedrich Baffier und M. Theodor Hernler, Weiland Dienere am Heil. Evangelio in der Kirche zu Basel.
This volume was printed at Basel, Switzerland as noted: Neue Auslage, Mit noch mehrern Auslegungen, sammt einer verbesserten Zeit-Rechmung und unterschiedlichen darzu dienlichen neuen Figuren versehen. Basel Ben und in Verlag Thurnensen. This volume is exactly similar to a 1798 edition of the Bible, which will be exhibited later, with the exception that the various engravings are scattered throughout this volume, whereas they are collected together in the other volume.
Despite the fact that the main frontispiece for this volume is missing, and many of the first pages are loose or missing, I was drawn to this book because of its claimed history. A paper inside this book claims that "this bible was shot through while standing on a corner shelf in perhaps the Revolution by in eastern Pennsylvania". Penciled on the paper were corrections which read: "This bible was shot into while standing on a corner shelf during the Indian attack in the (Hole) Monroe Valley, Del Co."
In regard to these notes, the Monroe Valley is not located in present-day Delaware County, Pennsylvania. It is found in the northern part of present-day Lebanon County, which is located to the northwest of Chester County, and separated by Lancaster County. Chester County, in turn, is just north of Delaware County. Therefore, the Monroe Valley in Pennsylvania was never located in Delware County, which wasn't formed out of Chester County until 1789.
