Robert Muirhead was the son of John Muirhead and Elizabeth Hamilton. He married Agnes Wilson in the year 1699 and took up residence in the town of Hamilton, in Lanarkshire, Scotland.(3.5)Agnes was born on 11 March, 1670 at Hamilton, in Lanarkshire.

  Robert and Agnes Muirhead gave birth to seven children – one son and six daughters. They included: Margaret, born on 20 October, 1700; Agnes, born in the year 1701; Bessie, born on 22 November, 1702; Robert, born in the year 1706; Marion, born on 23 December, 1711; Elisabeth, born on 05 March, 1715; and Charlot, born in the year 1720.

  Robert Muirhead died in the year 1727. Agnes’ deathdate is not known. A woman by the name of Agnes Muirhead, born about 1680, married John Anderson. It is possible that Agnes married Mr. Anderson after the death of Robert. (Note: The Muirhead Clan Society database suggests that the Agnes who married John Anderson was probably the daughter of Robert and Agnes, but neither suggestion is proven.)

  Margaret Muirhead, daughter of Robert and Agnes Muirhead, married Daniel Millar. They gave birth to: Kathrine, born 17 January, 1730; Agnas, born 05 September, 1731; Bessie, born 08 April, 1733; John, born 05 July, 1734; David, born 28 October, 1735; Margaret, born circa 1736; -----, born 25 December, 1737; and Daniel Jr., born 29 November, 1740.

  Margaret Millar (variously, Miller), daughter of Daniel and Margaret Millar, married her first cousin, James Watt, Jr., in July of 1764.(3.6) He was a son of James and Agnes (Muirhead) Watt. James and Margaret took up residence at Aston Hall, at Greenock, in Warwickshire, Scotland, and gave birth to four children: James, born 1764; John, born 1765 and died in infancy; Margaret, born 09 June, 1767; and Agnes, born 1770 and died 1772. Margaret died in 1773. After Margaret died, James married Mary Anne MacGregor. The wedding took place on 29 July, 1776 at New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. James and Mary Anne gave birth to two children, the youngest of which, Gregory, was born in 1777. Gregory died in 1804 of consumption. James died on 19 August, 1819 at Heathfield Hall, in Birmingham, England. Mary Anne died in the year 1832.   James Watt, son of James and Margaret Watt, is believed to never have married, but a son is attributed to him, according to the Muirhead Clan Society database: James Alexander, born circa 1830. James died on 02 June, 1848 at Aston Hall in Greenock, Scotland.

  James Alexander Watt, son of James Watt, married Iasabel McClean. James Alexander died in 1910 at Vancouver, British Columbia.

  Margaret, daughter of James and Margaret Watt, married James Miller in the year 1791. They gave birth to: Margaret, Agnes, and James. The son died at the age of twenty-two years.

  Agnes Miller, daughter of James and Margaret Miller, married James Gibson. James made a living as a doctor. The couple is believed to have given birth to six children, but only one is known by name: James.

  James Gibson, son of James and Agnes Gibson, legally appended the name of Watt to his own in the year 1856, to be known as James Gibson-Watt. He married and had four children.

  Agnes Muirhead, daughter of Robert and Agnes Muirhead, married James Watt on 09 April, 1729 at West Old Parish in Greenock, Scotland. James was born 28 January 1699 and was a son of Thomas Watt and Margaret Shearer. Thomas and Margaret Watt had moved to the little burgh of Crawfordsdyke (variously, Cartsdyke), near the village of Greenock, in Renfrewshire, Scotland, where Thomas was a teacher of navigation. His tombstone was engraved that he was a ‘Professor of the Mathematicks.’ He made a fine living for himself, and was later able to purchase a house in Greenock. Thomas was named to the position of chief magistrate (variously, Baillie of the Barony). He was also active in the affairs of the church. He served as an Elder of the Parish and Prebytery and as the Treasurer and Clerk to the Kirk-Session.

  James Watt was educated and served as an apprentice to a builder and shipwright and was noted as being a shipwright, a ship-chandler. He later made a living as a merchant in Greenock where he was a supplier of nautical apparatus, stores and instruments. James and Agnes gave birth to six children: Robert, born February, 1730 and died 22 April, 1730; Margaret, born 1732 and died 16 December, 1732; Thomas, born 1733 and died 30 September, 1734; James Jr., born 19 January, 1736; John, born 1739; and Jean, born 1740 and died 1771. Agnes died in 1755 (variously, 1753). James followed his wife in death in August, 1782.

  James Watt, son of James and Agnes Watt, married Margaret Millar as noted above.

  John Watt, son of James and Agnes Watt, made a living as a surveyor. A survey he made of the River Clyde was published in 1759. He married and had a son, William, in 1760. John died two years later, in 1762, by drowning. It is believed that he was a passenger on a ship, built by his father, which sank in the Atlantic Ocean.

  William Watt, son of John Watt, married Agnes Wilson around the year 1790. Agnes was born in 1760. They gave birth to: John, born 1805 at Lanarkshire. Both, William and Agnes are believed to have died in the year 1830.

  John Watt, son of William Watt, married Jane Hamilton on 14 November, 1841 at Devonhill Farm in East Kilbride, Scotland. Jane was born in the year 1817. They gave birth to: Christina, born 1842; Agnes, born 1844; Jane, born 1847; Jessie, born 1851 and died 1915; Mary, born 03 May, 1852; and William, born 07 January, 1857. John Watt died in 1890. Jane died in 1920.

  Christina Watt, daughter of John and Jane Watt, married Thomas Hastie. Thomas was born in 1840 and died in 1910. Christina also died in the year 1910.

  Agnes Watt, daughter of John and Jane Watt, married William Aitkenhead on 08 June, 1866 at Flackfield, Scotland. William was a son of James Aitkenhead and Isabel Smith. He was born on 07 May, 1839 at Blantyre, Scotland. William and Agnes gave birth to: James, born 17 April, 1867; Jane Hamilton, born 10 September, 1868; John, born 1869; and William Charlton, born 06 October, 1872. William died on 22 September, 1874 at Devonhill Farm, in East Kilbride, Scotland. Agnes died on 21 December, 1899 at Devonhill Farm.

  James Aitkenhead, son of William and Agnes Aitkenhead, married Kate Hamilton around the year 1900. She was a daughter of John Hamilton and Euphemia Lennox, and was born in the year 1870. The couple gave birth to a daughter: Euphemia, born 1902. James died in 1930 at Devonhill Farm, in East Kilbride. Kate also died in 1930.

  Jane Hamilton Aitkenhead, daughter of William and Agnes Aitkenhead, married Alexander Craig. Alexander was born in 1860 and died in 1940. Jane is believed to have died in 1940 also.

  William Charlton Aitkenhead, son of William and Agnes Aitkenhead, was married twice. William immigrated to the United States prior to 1896. His first wife was Minnie Woodcock, whom he married on 14 October, 1896 at Bronson, Fort Scott, Kansas. Minnie was a daughter of Alanson Woodcock and Adelaide Tolstede. She was born in August of 1871. She died in the year 1918. Prior to her death, the couple gave birth to: William Charleton Jr., born 25 October, 1897; Paul Woodcock, born 22 May, 1903; and Robert Clark, born 14 July, 1908 and died March, 1982. William’s second wife was also named Minnie. Her surname started with the letter ‘M’, but that is all that is known at this time. The second Minnie was born in 1881 in Kansas. William and she married in 1920. There were no children born to the second marriage. William made a living as a University Professor. It was at West Lafayette, in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, that William died in 1949.

  William Charlton Aitkenhead Jr, son of William Charlton Aitkenhead, married Lillian Louise Lamb on 12 May, 1921 at Tippecanoe, Indiana. Lillian was born on 20 January, 1898 at Indianapolis, Indiana. The couple gave birth to: William Lamb, Jean B., Grace B., and Ruth. William and Lillian moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where William died on 13 January, 1983 and Lillian on 07 June, 1985.

  William Lamb Aitkenhead, son of William and Lillian Aitkenhead, married Elizabeth Shippee. They gave birth to: William Frazier, Amy Lamb, Paul Cameron, and Matthew Williams.

    William Frazier Aitkenhead, son of William and Elizabeth Aitkenhead, married Alison Walsh. They gave birth to a son: Paul.

  Amy Lamb Aitkenhead, daughter of William and Elizabeth Aitkenhead, married Michael Tully.

  Jane Watt, daughter of John and Jane Watt, married George Park in 1870. George was born in 1845. Jane and George are both believed to have died in 1920.

  Mary Watt, daughter of John and Jane Watt, married Andrew Allan in the year 1875. He was born in 1850. Both, Andrew and Mary are believed to have died in 1920.

  William Watt, son of John and Jane Watt, married Jane Martin in 1880. They emigrated from Scotland to Australia, where they both died in the year 1920 at Nobby’s Creek, Nurwillumbal, New South Wales.

  Bessie Muirhead, daughter of Robert and Agnes Muirhead, married James Lourie. They gave birth to: Helen, born 13 March, 1721; Elizabeth, born 19 December, 1723; Jean, born 08 January, 1727; John, born 01 June, 1728; Janet, born 13 June, 1731; and Frances, born 10 September, 1734.

  Robert Muirhead Jr, son of Robert and Agnes Muirhead, married Margaret Muirhead, a daughter of John Muirhead. They resided at Denny, in Stirlingshire, Scotland. The couple gave birth to four children, three of whom we do not have names. The fourth and youngest child was William, born in the year 1736. Robert died in the year 1737.

    The eldest child of Robert and Margaret Muirhead married and gave birth to: Francis.

  William Muirhead, son of Robert and Margaret Muirhead, married Isabella Lockhart in 1768. Isabella was a daughter of John Sinclair Lockhart. The couple initially took up residence at Cavendish Square, in the parish of St. Marry-le-bone, Westminster. In 1768 William purchased the Herbertshire estate from Jean Stirling, wife of James Erskine Lord Alva. William and Isabella Muirhead gave birth to: William II, born 1770 and died in March, 1834; Charlotte Martha, born 01 January, 1771 and died 1795; John, born 03 July, 1773; and Robert, born 19 March, 1777. The father, William, died on 18 June, 1793 at Herbertshire.

They gave birth to: William, born 1792 at Glenfuir House in Stirlingshire and died 1872; Matilda, born 1798; and Thomas, born 14 April, 1800 at Dunipace, in Stirling.

  Matilda Morehead, daughter of William and Marion Muirhead, married John Stedman Christie in the year 1816. John was born in 1784. They gave birth to: John Stedman Jr, and Matilda Marianne, born in 1819. Matilda died in 1819. John died in 1837.

    John Stedman Christie Jr, son of John and Matilda Christie, married Catherine Muirhead, a daughter of Peter Muirhead and Janet Kerr. Catherine was born circa 1841. The couple gave birth to: Jeanie, Elizabeth and James.

  Matilda Marianne Christie, daughter of John and Matilda Christie, married the Reverend James MacFarlan in 1837. He was a son of John McFarlan, and was born in 1800 at Muiravonside. The couple gave birth to one child: Marian, born in 1851. James died in 1871. Matilda died in 1890.

  Marian MacFarlan, daughter of James and Matilda MacFarlan, married Charles Menzies in 1886. Charles was born in 1850. Charles and Marian gave birth to: Robert Charles, born 1887. Marian died in 1894. Charles died in 1929.

  Robert Charles Menzies, son of Charles and Marian Menzies, married Lilli Mathisen in 1917. Lilli was born in 1894 at Oslo, Norway. Lilli died in 1936 at Oslo. Robert died in 1972 at Raslett, in Herbfordshire, Scotland. The couple had one child: Marion, born 07 January, 1925 at Bristol, England.

  Marion Menzies, daughter of Robert and Lilli Menzies, married Peter Streuli, a son of Arnold Streuli and Emmeline Clough. They had two children: Charles Henry, and Michael Peter. Marion died on 25 February, 1996 at Oxford, England.

    Michael Peter Streuli, son of Peter and Marion Streuli, married Susan Jill Dorey. They had one child: Thomas.

  John Muirhead, son of William and Isabella Muirhead, married Anne Christie about the year 1804. John made a living as a customs collector at Grangemouth. He died in the year 1837.

  Robert Muirhead, son of William and Isabella Muirhead, married Margaret Wilson on 27 November, 1804 at Glasgow. Margaret was a daughter of Charles Wilson. She was born between 1780 and 1782. The couple took up residence in the village of Denny, in Stirlingshire, where Robert made a living as a preacher and was the Rector of Easington Yorks. The couple gave birth to: Isabella; William Ambrose, born 1805; Charles, born 08 February, 1807; Robert Archibald Alison, born 1809; and George Jeffrey, born 1811. Robert died on 13 March, 1842. Margaret died in 1849.

She was born at Bawn James, in County Kilkenny, in the year 1808, the daughter of John McGrath. William died on 01 December, 1863 at Edinburgh. During his lifetime, he had served as a civil servant in India for thirty-eight years. William and Catherine gave birth to: a child who died in infancy, born 1831; Mary Geraldine, born 1833; Margaret Charlotte Lockhart, born between 1834 and 1835; Kathleen Leonora, born 1837; Anne, born 1839; and Georgina Caroline, born 1841.

  Margaret Charlotte Lockhart Morehead, daughter of William and Catherine Morehead, married George Gunning John Campbell on 14 October, 1858 at Madras, Tamel Nadu, India. Margaret died on 27 January, 1915.

  Georgina Caroline Morehead, daughter of William and Catherine Morehead, married the Reverend J.F. Bateman.

  Charles Muirhead, son of Robert and Margaret Muirhead, married Harriett Anne Barnes, the daughter of George Barnes. They gave birth to two children: Charles Rivett, who died in 1852; and Harriet Anne. Charles died on 24 August, 1882.

  Robert Archibald Alison Morehead, son of Robert and Margaret Muirhead, married and had one son: Boyd Dunlop. Robert made a living as the manager of the Scottish Australian Investment Company of Sydney.

  George Jeffrey Muirhead, son of Robert and Margaret Muirhead, served as Rector of Easington.

  John Muirhead, son of Robert and Agnes Muirhead, married Margaret Davidson on 23 March, 1738 at Govan, in Lanarkshire. Margaret was born on 14 October, 1718, a daughter of Andrew Davidson (variously, Donaldson) and Marion Anderson. The couple gave birth to: Marion, born 19 December, 1739; Robert, born 02 August, 1742; Andrew, born 08 January, 1743; John Jr., born 13 June, 1745; Robert, born 22 April, 1748; and Agnas, born 22 May, 1751.

  Marion Muirhead, daughter of John and Margaret Muirhead, married James Campbell. They gave birth to: John, born 07 May, 1764; Charles, born 19 January, 1768; Anna, born 24 October, 1769; Margaret, born 15 December, 1770; Jean, born 07 November, 1773; Robert, born 05 May, 1776; Andrew Donaldson, born 01 May, 1777; Agnes, born 03 May, 1777; James Morehead, born 06 June, 1778; Lillias, born 12 May, 1781; and Charlotte Marion, born 18 September, 1782.   Anna Campbell, daughter of James and Marion Campbell, married Lockhart Muirhead on 19 June, 1804 at Glasgow, in Lanarkshire. Lockhart was a son of Patrick Muirhead and Elizabeth Muirhead. Information on this family is given in the section above titled: Patrick Muirhead.

  Robert Muirhead, son of John and Margaret Muirhead, married Elizabeth Weir in March, 1781. The couple gave birth to one son: Robert, Jr., born 06 March, 1781. (The Muirhead Clan Society database gives the couple’s marriage date as 06 March, 1781, but it is highly unlikely that the couple went through with their marriage on the same day that Elizabeth was giving birth to her son.)

  Robert Muirhead, Jr., son of Robert and Elizabeth Muirhead, married Agnes Hyslop on 03 January, 1804 at Avondale, in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire. Agnes was born in 1784 at Kirkconnel, a daughter of John Hyslop. The couple gave birth to: Agnes, born 22 July, 1805 and died prior to 1807; Agnes, born 11 October, 1807 and died prior to 1809; Agnes, born 22 July, 1809; Mary, born 23 February, 1812 and died prior to 1815; John, born 21 January, 1814 and died 22 June, 1895; and Mary, born 01 October, 1815.

    Agnes Muirhead, daughter of Robert and Agnes Muirhead, married John Leckie on 31 December, 1827 at Saint Cuthberts, in Edinburgh. The couple gave birth to: John Jr., born 29 October, 1829; Agnes, born 03 January, 1832; Elizabeth, born 21 March, 1839; and Jane, born 22 August, 1841.

  John Muirhead, son of Robert and Agnes Muirhead, married Mary Ann Hill on 11 November, 1853 at Glasgow, in Lanarkshire. Mary was a daughter of James Hill and Sarah Jones. She was born in 1820 in South Wales. John made a lilving as a tailor. The couple gave birth to: Robert James, born 12 April, 1855; Mary Ann, born 18 June, 1857; and John Jr., born 26 October, 1859. John died on 22 June, 1895. Mary died on 04 January, 1905.

  Robert James Muirhead, son of John and Mary Muirhead, was married twice. His first marriage was to Margaret Runcie on 07 February, 1877 at Newington, in Edinburgh. Margaret was born in 1855, a daughter of James Runcie and Elspet Dickie. The couple gave birth to: Robert, born 13 September, 1877; John, born 1880; and Frederick James, born 15 June, 1886 and died 17 September, 1893. Robert’s second wife was Janet Stewart, who was born on 13 March, 1863. They gave birth to: Jane Stewart, born 02 October, 1896; and William Stewart, born 11 November, 1900 and died 21 December, 1901. (Note: The Muirhead Clan Society database has the wives reversed, but it would have been impossible for Robert and Janet’s first child, born in 1896 to have been born after Robert and Margaret’s which was born in 1877.) Robert died in 1948.

  Robert Muirhead, son of Robert and Margaret Muirhead, was married three times. His first marriage was to Mary Brown Halkerston on 10 November, 1899. Mary was a daughter of Frank and Mary Halkerstone and was born on 21 January, 1878. The couple gave birth to: Frank; Robert Jr.; Mary, born 1900; Earnest, born 18 September, 1901 and died 1925; Helen, born 18 March, 1906; and Catherine. Mary died on 17 March, 1916. Robert then, on 21 December, 1916, married Allison Dickie Brodie. Allison was a daughter of John Brodie and Ann Runcie. Allison was born on 01 January, 1880. She had, prior to this marriage, been married to a man by the name of “Moore”. She apparently had a family with her first husband at South Africa, but she returned to Scotland without them. Robert and Allison gave birth to one child: John Brodie, born 26 May, 1918. Allison died on 01 May, 1934. Robert then, in 1939, married Mary Ann Keir Meldrum. She had been born in 1882. Mary had been married previously, and had a daughter: Alice.

  Frank Muirhead, son of Robert and Mary Muirhead, married Mary Moffat. They gave birth to: Margaret.

  Margaret Muirhead, daughter of Frank and Mary Muirhead, married David Oliver Watson. They gave birth to: David, Denise, and Dana.

    Denise Watson, daughter of David and Margaret Watson, married Randy Lovelace. They gave birth to: Heather, and Rachael.

    Mary Ann Muirhead, daughter of John and Mary Muirhead, was married twice. Her first husband was John McEwen. John was born in 1856 at Mulgie, in Renfrewshire. He apparently died at some time prior to 1873. On 29 December, 1873, Mary married George Gibson at Edinburgh. This second marriage produced two children: Robert James, born 11 October, 1874; and Marion Stevenson, born 15 September, 1878.

  John Muirhead, Jr., son of John and Mary Muirhead, married Barbara Cook in 1896 at Edinburgh. Barbara was born on 04 July, 1861 at Freswick, Canisbay, in Caithnesshire, Scotland. John made a living as a bricklayer. Barbara took jobs as a general servant, apparently after her husband died. The couple did not have any children. John died on 18 November, 1911. Barbara died on 12 August, 1933.

  Mary Muirhead, daughter of Robert and Agnes Muirhead, married Hugh Hunter on 09 October, 1843. They gave birth to: Helen, born 18 May, 1845.

  Helen Hunter, daughter of Hugh and Mary Hunter, married David Jamieson on 24 November, 1871.

  Agnas Muirhead, daughter of John and Margaret Muirhead, married James Hamilton. They gave birth to a son: James Jr., born 22 November, 1767. That son apparently died prior to February, 1770, because a second son, born 07 February, 1770, was also named James.
