  Charles Slaughter Morehead, son of Charles and Margaret Morehead, was born on the 7th of July 1802 in Nelson County, Kentucky.(7.51)

  Charles Slaughter Morehead graduated from the Transylvania University. Afterwards, Charles moved to Christian County, where he practiced law. In 1827 Charles was elected to the Kentucky state Legislature. Mr. Morehead moved to Frankfort. In 1832 he was appointed as the Attorney General for Kentucky, an office which he held for five years. Between 1838 and 1844, Charles Morehead served in the Kentucky Legislature from Franklin County. During that time, Charles served as Speaker of the House for three terms. Then, between 1847 and 1851, he served his state as a representative to Congress. In 1855 Charles Slaughter Morehead was elected to a four year term as Governor of the state of Kentucky. At the conclusion of his governorship, Charles moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where he practiced law with his nephew, Charles Morehead Briggs.

  Charles Slaughter Morehead died on 23 December 1868 from heart disease.
